Sniping One Piece cards on eBay: why last-second bids win

October 22, 2026 · 2 min read

eBay auctions are one of the last places to find One Piece singles and slabs below market, but only if you don’t bid against yourself. Bidding in the last few seconds, called sniping, is the simplest way to do that.

How eBay bidding actually works

eBay uses proxy bidding. You enter the most you’d pay; eBay bids for you, one increment at a time, only as high as needed to stay on top. The winner pays one increment over the second-highest maximum, not their own maximum.

So why does timing matter if eBay already bids for you? Because early bids invite reactions. A bid placed three days out tells every other watcher the card is contested, and gives them days to raise their own maximum. Bidding wars drive the final price up, and the person who started it often ends up paying more.

Why the last seconds win

A bid placed in the final seconds gives nobody time to respond. Everyone else’s maximum is whatever they set earlier, so if yours is higher, you win, at one increment over theirs. You’re competing against their set maximums, not their emotions.

Setting a max you won’t regret

  1. Look up what it actually sells for. Use recent sold prices, not asking prices. For raw cards TCGplayer’s market price is a good guide; for graded cards check recent sales of the same grade, because a PSA 10 and a PSA 9 of the same card can be far apart.
  2. Include shipping and any fees in your number.
  3. Set it once and walk away. If someone else’s max was higher, they paid more than you wanted to. That’s fine.

The Skypiea Deals app

Our eBay app for Mac and Windows does the timing for you. Paste a listing, set your max, and it places the bid in the final seconds, synced to internet time, and warns you about auctions that might extend. Its deal monitor watches for new listings at or under a price you set, and Browse shows auctions ending soonest.

The app is included with the Elite plan, bids from your own eBay account, and keeps your eBay login on your computer. Bids are real, so only set a max you’re happy to pay.
